World number five Jessica Pegula has announced her withdrawal from the French Open as she continues her recovery from multiple injuries. The 30-year-old American made the announcement on Wednesday via Instagram, confirming that she will not compete in Paris.
Earlier this month, Pegula had expressed uncertainty about her participation in the French Open due to an injury that interrupted her clay court season. She has not competed since the Billie Jean King Cup in April, and previously missed the Middle East swing in February due to a neck issue.
“Unfortunately, I’m pulling out of Roland Garros this year,” Pegula wrote on Instagram. “I’m just about back to practicing normally and haven’t had any issues for weeks. If I had another 5-7 days, I would have been there 100%. I will definitely be back for a full grass season and the rest of the summer, grinding out the rest of the year. Gotta get that match count up.”
Pegula did not disclose specific details about her current injury but mentioned that her recovery is progressing well. She also missed significant tournaments in Rome, Stuttgart, and Madrid this season.
Known for her consistency on the WTA Tour last season, Pegula captured the Montreal title ahead of the U.S. Open, where she advanced to the round of 16. She reached the third round at Roland Garros last year, showcasing her potential on clay.
The first round of the French Open begins on Sunday. As Pegula steps back to focus on her recovery, she looks forward to returning strong for the upcoming grass season and the remainder of the tennis calendar.
