Detroit Lions Extend Jared Goff’s Contract Through 2028

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has set his sights on a Super Bowl victory, following the announcement of his contract extension with the team through the 2028 season. On Thursday, Goff expressed his renewed determination to lead the Lions to a championship. “I’m more driven and more fired up than ever to go even harder and put the pedal to the metal even more to bring a Super Bowl to the city, and that’s what’s most important,” Goff stated.

Goff joined the Lions in 2021 as part of the trade that sent veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams. Entering his fourth season as Detroit’s starter, Goff has demonstrated impressive performance. Over 48 regular season games with the Lions, he has completed 66.5% of his passes, amassing 12,258 yards, 78 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions, resulting in a passer rating of 96.5.

In the previous NFL season, Goff led in several key categories among quarterbacks. He was first in passing first downs (227), second in passing yards (4,575), second in 20-yard completions (69), and tied for third in 300-yard games (five).

The Lions concluded their season with a 12-5 record, capturing their first division title in three decades. Detroit’s playoff run included victories over the Los Angeles Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, although it ended with a narrow 34-31 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game, despite holding a 24-7 halftime lead.

Goff’s NFL journey began when he was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Rams. His reported annual average value of $53 million with this extension ranks second in the league, just behind Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. Burrow, who secured a five-year, $275 million deal last September, has an annual average value of $55 million.

As Goff continues his tenure with the Lions, his focus remains on leading the team to greater heights and ultimately securing a Super Bowl victory for Detroit.
