The Chicago White Sox have bolstered their outfield depth by acquiring Corey Julks from the Houston Astros in exchange for minor league right-hander Luis Rodriguez. The trade was confirmed by Astros general manager Dana Brown on Wednesday.
Julks, 28, brings major league experience to the White Sox, having made his debut with the Astros in 2023. During his time with Houston, Julks recorded a .245 batting average with six home runs, 33 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases across 93 games. In the 2024 season, Julks has been with Triple-A Sugar Land, where he maintained a .266 batting average with five home runs and 15 RBIs over 31 games before being designated for assignment last Friday.
In return, the Astros acquire Luis Rodriguez, a promising 20-year-old right-hander who has shown potential in the White Sox organization. Rodriguez appeared in 17 games over the past two seasons, posting a 3.93 ERA with 49 strikeouts over 36 2/3 innings split between the Arizona Complex League and the Dominican Summer League.
The addition of Julks provides the White Sox with outfield depth and versatility, while the Astros gain a young pitching prospect in Rodriguez as part of this transaction. This trade underscores both teams’ efforts to strengthen their respective rosters and build for the future.
