The Boston Red Sox have reinstated right-hander Brayan Bello from the 15-day injured list to start in Sunday’s game against the Washington Nationals at home. Bello’s return prompted the optioning of fellow right-hander Josh Winckowski to Triple-A Worcester to make room on the roster.
Bello, who last pitched for Boston on April 19 before landing on the injured list due to lat tightness, will make his first career appearance against the Nationals. The Red Sox and Nationals are both vying for a series victory in Sunday’s matchup.
This season, Bello has shown promise, boasting a record of 3-1 with a 3.04 ERA in five starts. Over his three-year career with the Red Sox, the 24-year-old has accumulated a record of 17-20 with a 4.22 ERA in 46 appearances, including 44 starts.
In corresponding roster moves, Winckowski, 25, has been optioned to Triple-A after posting a 1-1 record with a 3.33 ERA in 12 appearances, including three starts, this season. Throughout his career with Boston, Winckowski has compiled a 10-12 record with a 4.12 ERA in 87 games, including 18 starts.
Bello’s return provides the Red Sox with added depth and talent on the mound as they look to secure a crucial victory against the Nationals in Sunday’s matchup.
