Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon is facing a significant setback due to a high-grade partial tear of his left hamstring. Rendon, who was initially placed on the 10-day injured list last Sunday, acknowledged that his recovery will extend well beyond the initial timeframe, with no specific return date set by the team.
Expressing frustration over his recurring injury struggles, Rendon shared his disappointment: “I’m definitely not going to be back in the 10-day window. It’s been four years running now. So I was angry for a few days, frustrated, mad, everything you could imagine because the game keeps getting taken away from me, right?”
The 33-year-old infielder sustained the injury while running out an infield hit during a game against the Cincinnati Reds. Despite a slow start to the season, Rendon had shown improvement at the plate, batting .357 over his last 14 games after an initial 0-for-19 stretch.
Angels general manager Perry Minasian acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Rendon’s recovery timeline: “I have no idea how long because hamstrings are tricky.” In Rendon’s absence, the Angels will rely on their depth, including players like Miguel Sano, Luis Rengifo, and Brandon Drury, to step up and fill the void.
Rendon, now in the fifth season of a seven-year, $245 million contract, has struggled with injuries during his tenure with the Angels, appearing in just 219 games since joining the team. His durability remains a concern as he aims to contribute consistently to the Angels’ lineup.
