Double World Cup-winning prop forward Steven Kitshoff is set to return to the Cape Town-based Stormers next season after signing a two-year deal, the South African franchise announced. Kitshoff will be leaving Ulster, where he spent a single season, after his contract is released in July.
The Stormers’ recent equity deal with the Red Disa Consortium has provided them with a significant financial boost, paving the way for Kitshoff’s return. The 32-year-old loosehead prop, who boasts 138 appearances for the Stormers, played a pivotal role in leading them to the United Rugby Championship title in 2022 before his stint in Belfast following South Africa’s Rugby World Cup triumph.
Coach John Dobson expressed his excitement about Kitshoff’s return, emphasizing his importance both on and off the pitch. Dobson highlighted Kitshoff’s leadership qualities and immense value to the team’s environment, stating that the Stormers always aimed to bring him back. With the support of their new owners, Dobson expressed his delight that they were able to facilitate Kitshoff’s return swiftly.
