According to reports from ESPN and NFL Network on Tuesday, safety Julian Blackmon is set to return to the Indianapolis Colts on a one-year deal. The contract, reportedly worth up to $7.7 million, includes $3.2 million guaranteed, as per NFL Network’s sources.
Blackmon, who was a free agent following the expiration of his rookie contract, opted to remain with the Colts for another season. Over his four-year tenure with the team, he has amassed an impressive stat line, tallying 214 tackles, seven interceptions, 17 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and one sack.
In the 2023 season, Blackmon delivered a standout performance, achieving career highs in various categories including tackles (88), interceptions (four), pass breakups (eight), and starts (15). Despite interest from other teams such as the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers, Blackmon ultimately opted to return to Indianapolis after failing to secure a multi-year offer in the open market.
The re-signing of Blackmon underscores the Colts’ commitment to fortifying their defense for the upcoming season. Joining a cohort of defensive stalwarts who have either been re-signed or extended this offseason, including linebacker Zaire Franklin, cornerback Kenny Moore II, and defensive linemen Tyquan Lewis and Grover Stewart, Blackmon’s return is poised to bolster the team’s defensive unit and contribute to their aspirations for success in the upcoming campaign.
