In a show of unwavering commitment to representing his country, England midfielder Jordan Henderson reaffirmed his dedication to the national team after being the subject of home fans’ boos during a friendly match against Australia. The incident occurred when Henderson was substituted during England’s 1-0 victory on Friday, which he captained in the absence of Harry Kane.
Jordan Henderson, who recently joined Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq, played for 62 minutes at Wembley before being taken off. His move to the Saudi Pro League, where homosexuality is illegal, made headlines, especially because Henderson has long been a vocal supporter of the LGBT community.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Henderson expressed his feelings about the fans’ reaction, saying, “It’s not nice, your own fans, if they were booing. But listen, people have got their own opinions. …it won’t change who I am and what I do for this team and for my country. I give absolutely everything every time.”
Despite the mixed reception, Henderson made it clear that he still has a strong desire to continue playing for England for as long as possible and is committed to giving his all for the team and his country.
When asked about the reactions to his transfer to Al-Ettifaq, Henderson responded, “I look at it from a different point of view, obviously. But I can understand it, and I’ve got to take that on the chin.”
Furthermore, Henderson expressed his support for the Saudi Arabian Football Federation’s announcement that they intend to bid for the 2034 World Cup after Qatar hosted the tournament last year.
Reflecting on Qatar’s World Cup, Henderson stated, “When we look at Qatar, the way that they did the job there. It was a good tournament, I think the fans enjoyed the tournament, and I think Saudi would be no different. So I think that’s exciting times for them (Saudi Arabia) as a country, and I think it will be a special tournament if they ended up getting it.”
England is set to host Italy in a crucial Euro 2024 qualifier on Tuesday.
