Inter Milan’s perfect start to the Serie A season came to an end as Sassuolo mounted a remarkable comeback to secure a 2-1 victory on Wednesday. Despite this loss, Inter remains at the top of the Serie A standings with 15 points after six matches, sharing the lead with AC Milan, who secured a 3-1 victory against Cagliari. Sassuolo, riding high after defeating Juventus 4-2 over the weekend, now occupies eighth place with nine points.

Inter manager Simone Inzaghi acknowledged that his team should have capitalized on their first-half performance by scoring more than one goal. He emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and shape against formidable opponents like Sassuolo, as losing shape against them can be challenging.

Dumfries opened the scoring for Inter just before half-time when he cut into the box and fired a low shot into the bottom corner of the net. However, Sassuolo equalized in the 54th minute when Bajrami’s angled shot from 12 yards found its way over the goal line, with Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer unable to prevent it.

Berardi sealed victory for Sassuolo nine minutes later with a powerful long-range strike that nestled into the bottom corner of the net.

Reflecting on the match, Inzaghi pointed out that Inter started the second half well but allowed an error that led to Sassuolo’s equalizer. He added that after Berardi’s “magical goal,” they lost their way in the match.

Inter’s next Serie A fixture will see them visit Salernitana on Saturday before hosting Benfica on October 3 in the Champions League group stage.

Meanwhile, Napoli displayed flashes of their previous season’s form as they comfortably defeated Udinese 4-1 at home, with Victor Osimhen and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia among the goal-scorers. Napoli is currently fifth in the Serie A standings with 11 points.

Lazio also secured a 2-0 home win over Torino, with goals from Matias Vecino and Mattia Zaccagni. They currently occupy the 11th spot in the Serie A standings with seven points.
