In a crucial Euro 2024 qualification match, Erling Haaland showcased his scoring prowess, netting his 25th international goal in 26 appearances to help Norway secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Georgia. The win keeps Norway’s hopes alive for qualification in Group A.
The 23-year-old striker made his presence felt early in the match, finding the back of the net on the 25th-minute mark. Norway’s captain, Martin Odegaard, extended their lead just eight minutes later, underlining the home side’s dominance at Oslo’s Ullevaal stadium.
However, Georgia refused to go down without a fight. With Norway in need of all three points to remain competitive for one of the two qualifying spots from Group A, Budu Zivzivadze managed to pull a goal back for Georgia in stoppage time, putting Norway’s nerves to the test.
Norway’s manager, Stale Solbakken, acknowledged his side’s somewhat slow start but praised their growing threat as the match progressed. He commented, “A slightly slow start, but at the same time we had full control. They laid very low and closed well. Then we gradually became more and more dangerous.”
The victory leaves Norway in third place in the group standings after five matches, with a total of eight points. They are currently trailing group leaders Scotland by eight points and are two points behind Spain, who have played one fewer game. Norway’s determination to secure a Euro 2024 qualification spot remains steadfast as they continue to vie for their place in the tournament.
