Portugal delivered an emphatic performance on Monday, securing their largest-ever win with a resounding 9-0 triumph over Luxembourg at Estadio Algarve. This exceptional victory preserved Portugal’s unblemished record in the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.
Substitute Joao Felix etched his name into the record books with a goal just two minutes from time, adding the finishing touch to this historic win. Portugal’s goal onslaught included contributions from Goncalo Inacio, Goncalo Ramos, and Diogo Jota, each scoring twice. Additionally, Ricardo Horta and Bruno Fernandes, who provided three assists, left their mark on the scoresheet.
Portugal’s previous record was an 8-0 victory, a feat they had achieved on three occasions—twice against Liechtenstein in 1994 and 1999, and once against Kuwait in 2003.
