The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) released a statement explaining their decision to remove Antony from the squad, citing the need to investigate the allegations and protect the alleged victim. The CBF stated that Antony was being withdrawn “in order to protect the alleged victim, the player, the Brazilian national team, and the CBF.”
Antony, who plays for Manchester United, has strongly denied the allegations on social media. He mentioned that he had cooperated with the police authorities and was confident that the ongoing investigations would prove his innocence.
In response to the allegations, Brazil coach Fernando Diniz has called up Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus as a replacement for Antony. Brazil is scheduled to face Bolivia and Peru as part of their World Cup qualifying campaign.
