The West African ATP Challenge tournament, known as the Côte d’Ivoire Open, will take place from April 14 to 27, 2025, at the Sofitel Hôtel Ivoire Sports Complex in Abidjan. The official announcement was made on April 9 by Koyo Sylvere, President of the Ivorian Tennis Federation (FIT).
This tournament, part of the ATP Challenger Tour, awards international ranking points and is considered one of the top events in its category. Over 70 professional tennis players from various countries are expected to participate, bringing global attention to Ivorian tennis.
Côte d’Ivoire is now the 95th country to join the ATP Challenger Tour calendar. President Sylvere highlighted the importance of the ATP’s confidence in the event, calling it a major opportunity for the nation. He expressed hope that the success of the tournament will secure Côte d’Ivoire’s place alongside other prestigious events like Wimbledon, the US Open, and Roland Garros.
The Côte d’Ivoire Open is part of the FIT’s strategic plan to improve the performance of national players and promote tennis at both national and international levels.
Tournament Director Arzel Mevellec said the event will help African players earn valuable ATP points without needing to travel abroad. The tournament will feature 32 players in the main draw, 24 in the qualifiers, and 16 doubles teams. Players ranked between 200th and 600th in the world will compete.
A total of 64 matches will be played, and the winner will receive 50 ATP points. The tournament also aims to support youth employment and tennis development in the country, contributing to a growing sports ecosystem.
Commissioner Kodo Esso, representing the Minister Delegate for Sports and Living Environment, praised the initiative. He noted that after hosting the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Côte d’Ivoire is again stepping into the continental spotlight. He also commended the FIT for upgrading infrastructure and preparing for a successful international tournament.
