Two Wellington Phoenix players have been selected for the Football Ferns squad ahead of next month’s international matches in Taiwan.
Annalie Longo and Manaia Elliott will represent New Zealand in two matches against Chinese Taipei.
Longo, a veteran with 138 international caps, recently captained the Ferns for the first time in their matches against Costa Rica. She has been a key player for the Phoenix this season in the A-League, scoring three goals and assisting four more in 17 appearances.
Elliott, who previously captained New Zealand at the U-17 and U-20 levels, made her senior debut in the Costa Rica series. She has had a breakthrough season with the Phoenix, playing in all 18 matches and scoring three goals, including a stunning Olimpico winner against Newcastle Jets in January.
Both players will join the national team after Wellington’s A-League match against Melbourne City at Porirua Park on Sunday, March 30.
The Football Ferns will first face Chinese Taipei’s ‘Blue Magpies’ in a closed-door training match on Saturday, April 5. They will then play an official international fixture at Kaohsiung Nanzih Football Stadium on Tuesday, April 8.
Following their national team duties, Longo and Elliott will rejoin the Phoenix in Canberra ahead of their round 22 A-League match against Canberra United on Sunday, April 13.
