The No. 29 Arkansas men’s tennis team (14-6, 3-3) suffered a 4-0 defeat against No. 25 South Carolina (11-4, 5-1) on Thursday afternoon at Carolina Tennis Center.
South Carolina took control early, securing the doubles point with wins on the top two courts. The duo of Karahan and Sarr earned a 6-2 victory over Arkansas’ Božo Barun and Benni Emesz at the No. 2 spot. The Gamecocks clinched the doubles point when No. 26-ranked da Silva and Thomson edged out Connor Smillie and Jakub Vrba, 6-4, at the No. 1 position. The third doubles match, featuring Brendan Boland and Marino Jakic, was left unfinished with the score tied at 5-5.
In singles play, the Gamecocks built on their momentum, claiming straight-set victories on multiple courts. Karahan defeated Emesz 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5, while Avram overcame Arthur Bellegy in two sets at No. 6. The match was decided when No. 79 Daryabeigi sealed a 6-4, 6-2 win over Jakic at No. 4, securing the 4-0 victory for South Carolina.
Several other matches went unfinished. Barun was battling Hoole at the No. 1 position and had forced a third set before the match was abandoned. No. 82 Lukas Palovic trailed da Silva 4-6, 1-2 on court two, while No. 124 Vrba lost a close first-set tiebreak 6-7 (5) against No. 57 Thomson before trailing 0-1 in the second.
Arkansas will look to bounce back as they face No. 27 Florida on Saturday, March 15, at 11 a.m.
