Chelsea put an end to their five-game winless streak in the Premier League with a commanding 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton on Monday night, propelling them into fourth place, ahead of Newcastle and Manchester City in the standings.
The match began with a breakthrough for Chelsea as Tosin Adarabioyo found the net in the 24th minute, capitalizing on a deflected shot from Reece James that fell perfectly for him just six meters from goal. This marked Adarabioyo’s third goal in as many games, following a standout performance in the FA Cup against Morecambe. Despite Chelsea’s dominance in the first half, Wolves managed to equalize in stoppage time due to a blunder from Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez, who dropped a corner kick at the feet of Matt Doherty, allowing him to score from close range.
In the second half, Chelsea showcased their resilience and quality, with Marc Cucurella restoring their lead in the 60th minute after chesting down a cross and bundling the ball into the net. Just five minutes later, Noni Madueke tapped in a goal-bound header from Trevoh Chalobah, sealing the victory for Chelsea. Madueke expressed his apologies to Chalobah for taking credit for the goal but emphasized his instinct to ensure the ball crossed the line. He praised Chalobah’s performance, highlighting his leadership and bravery, which he believes were crucial to the team’s success. Meanwhile, Doherty reflected on Wolves’ struggles, particularly in defending set pieces, and stressed the need for a more aggressive mindset in such situations. Following this win, Chelsea now sits on 40 points, two ahead of Newcastle and Manchester City, while Wolves remains in 17th place, just above the relegation zone.
