Falcons Interview Wink Martindale for DC Role

The Atlanta Falcons have initiated their search for a new defensive coordinator by conducting a virtual interview with Wink Martindale, the current defensive coordinator at Michigan. This decision follows the dismissal of Jimmy Lake, who was let go after the Falcons concluded their 2024 season with an 8-9 record.

The Falcons announced the interview with the 61-year-old Martindale on Tuesday. With two decades of experience coaching in the NFL, Martindale joined the Michigan coaching staff prior to the recent season. He becomes the first known candidate to interview for the defensive coordinator position since the Falcons parted ways with Lake and defensive line coach Jay Rodgers on Saturday.

Martindale brings a wealth of experience to the table, having served as the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants from 2022 to 2023, and previously holding similar roles with the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens. His tenure with the Ravens spanned from 2012 to 2021, and he has also coached with the Las Vegas Raiders. The Falcons, who ranked 23rd in the league in total defense and allowed an average of 24.9 points per game, are looking to turn around their fortunes after missing the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season.
