Aston Villa Signs Malen from Dortmund

Aston Villa has officially signed Netherlands forward Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund for a reported transfer fee of £21 million ($25.6 million), the club announced on Tuesday. The 25-year-old forward joins Villa with 18 months left on his contract at Dortmund, where he has struggled to secure consistent playing time this season.

Malen’s career began at Arsenal, where he joined the academy from Ajax in 2015. However, he returned to the Netherlands in 2017 to play for PSV Eindhoven without making a senior appearance for the Gunners. After a successful stint at PSV, Malen moved to Dortmund in 2021, where he has since participated in key matches, including last season’s Champions League final, albeit as a substitute in a 2-0 loss to Real Madrid.

This season, Malen’s opportunities have been limited due to the emergence of Jamie Gittens as a regular starter for Dortmund. Despite this, he remains an important player for the Netherlands national team, having earned 41 caps under coach Ronald Koeman. With his transfer to Aston Villa, Malen will be looking to revitalize his career and contribute significantly to his new club.
