Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has weighed in on the team’s disappointing 5-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Supercopa de España final. The match, which saw a promising start for Los Blancos, quickly turned into a nightmare as Barcelona capitalized on their opportunities.
Real Madrid initially took the lead with an early goal from Kylian Mbappe in the fifth minute. However, the tide shifted dramatically as Barcelona responded with a flurry of goals. Lamine Yamal equalized in the 22nd minute, followed by Robert Lewandowski converting a penalty in the 36th minute. Raphinha added two more goals in the 39th and 48th minutes, and Alejandro Balde rounded off the scoring for Barcelona just before halftime, leaving Real Madrid trailing 5-1 at the break.
Despite Wojciech Szczesny’s red card in the 56th minute, Real Madrid managed to pull one back through Rodrygo in the 60th minute. However, the effort proved insufficient as they ultimately fell to a heavy defeat. This loss marks another troubling result for Los Merengues, who had previously suffered a 4-0 defeat to their rivals earlier in the La Liga season, raising concerns about their performance against top competition.
