Belgian qualifier Zizou Bergs advanced to the quarter-finals of the ASB Classic in Auckland after defeating Italian qualifier Luca Nardi 6-1, 6-4 on Wednesday.
Bergs, ranked No. 66, made a strong comeback in the second set, recovering from a 4-1 deficit to close out the match in straight sets. He will next face the winner of the match between Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No. 4 seed, and Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena.
Earlier in the tournament, Bergs defeated New Zealand wildcard Isaac Becroft 6-3, 7-5.
Nardi, ranked No. 90, reached this round after benefiting from the retirement of No. 6 seed Flavio Cobolli (6-2, 1-1).
