Mats Wilander and Laura Robson are making bold predictions for Emma Raducanu, forecasting that the former world No. 10 will have a standout season in 2025 and emerge as a top contender in women’s tennis. Ahead of the new season, four Eurosport tennis analysts were asked to identify the “biggest comeback on the women’s side.”
While Alex Corretja and Tim Henman chose Belinda Bencic—who nearly missed the entire 2024 season due to pregnancy—Wilander and Robson opted for Raducanu.
Wilander, a seven-time Grand Slam champion from Sweden, expressed his hopes for Raducanu, stating, “I’m hoping and praying that she can be the comeback player of the year.” Robson echoed this sentiment, saying, “Why not Emma for 2025, comeback player of the year?”
Raducanu shares their optimism. After undergoing three surgeries and returning to the tour at the start of 2024, the 22-year-old showed significant improvement, achieving solid results despite being limited to just 13 tournaments due to ongoing injuries.
This year, she reached a WTA semifinal, defeating two top-10 players and climbing approximately 250 spots in the rankings. Reflecting on her season, the 2021 US Open champion remarked, “I wasn’t able to play the full calendar and stay on court as much as I would have liked. But I think sometimes I need reminding that I’m top 60 in the world and I’ve played less than 15 events, which is pretty unheard of.”
Raducanu expressed pride in her accomplishments, stating, “I know I’m a dangerous player. I know no one wants to pull my name in the draw. I take pride in that, and I’m looking forward to hopefully staying on court longer next year.”Looking ahead, Raducanu is set to kick off her 2025 season in Auckland next week.
