Nick Kyrgios has acknowledged Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz as “the best in the world,” but he remains confident in his own abilities as he prepares for potential matchups against the rising stars. Despite being sidelined for much of the past two seasons due to knee and wrist surgeries, Kyrgios is set to make his return at the Brisbane International next week.
The 29-year-old Australian recognizes that both Sinner and Alcaraz have elevated their games significantly, each winning a Grand Slam title this year. However, Kyrgios is determined to compete at the highest level as he aims for a Grand Slam victory in singles, which would likely require defeating top players during the tournament.
“There’s no doubt that Sinner and Alcaraz are the best in the world right now, hands down. But that doesn’t mean I won’t believe in myself. I’ll always back myself and do everything I can to compete,” Kyrgios told Telecom Asia Sport.
Kyrgios has expressed a desire to face Sinner at the Australian Open and recently made headlines with his comments about how he would handle a potential match against the world No. 1. On the “Nothing Major” podcast, he stated, “I would get every single person in the crowd to just get on him. I would just turn into an absolute riot. Like I would lose all respect, would go out the window and would just do anything to win.”
In recent months, Kyrgios has been vocal about his criticism of Sinner regarding a doping case, a topic that Sinner has yet to address publicly. However, it is clear that the tension between the two players could add an intriguing dynamic should they meet on the court.
