The Detroit Lions activated safety Ifeatu Melifonwu from injured reserve on Saturday, bringing him closer to making his season debut.
Melifonwu is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears due to a hand injury. Additionally, safety Brian Branch (calf) and guard Graham Glasgow (knee) are also questionable for the matchup.
The Lions did not include center Frank Ragnow (back) or linebacker Trevor Nowaske (concussion) on their injury report, indicating both players are expected to participate in the game.
To bolster their roster, Detroit promoted running back Jermar Jefferson and safety Loren Strickland from the practice squad. Jefferson’s addition is particularly significant as the team is without running back David Montgomery, who is sidelined indefinitely with a knee injury. Jefferson has not played in an NFL game since his rookie season with the Lions in 2021.
The Lions also signed linebacker Mitchell Agude and defensive lineman Chris Smith from the practice squad to provide additional depth for head coach Dan Campbell’s defense. Wide receiver Tom Kennedy was also added from the practice squad to enhance special teams options.
To accommodate these roster changes, the Lions released safety Brandon Joseph and wide receiver Maurice Alexander, while defensive lineman David Bada was waived with an injury settlement.
