Nick Kyrgios, known for his outspoken criticism, has responded to backlash regarding his remarks about Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. Following an X post that misrepresented his comments, Kyrgios clarified that he was not disparaging the accomplishments of the two young stars, who have dominated the tennis scene this year.
Sinner, 23, and Alcaraz, 21, have made headlines by splitting four Grand Slam titles between them and winning four of the nine Masters events. Sinner also clinched the ATP Finals and has held the top ranking since June, leading many to believe that he and Alcaraz have distanced themselves from the competition, including Novak Djokovic.
In a quote attributed to him, Kyrgios remarked, “They’re just kids. Alcaraz and Sinner don’t have the aura…” This statement sparked criticism from fans, with one retorting, “At least they have Grand Slams, that’s more than you can say.”
Kyrgios took to social media to express his frustration, stating, “No context here at all lol. Media is in a bad spot that’s for sure. Compared to Novak, Federer, Nadal, they are yet to have the aura that they have. They will for sure get there, but realistically they are kids doing insane things. Do better. Potatoes.”
Despite his criticism of Sinner’s recent doping case, Kyrgios has acknowledged the Italian’s impressive performances on the court, emphasizing that he recognizes and respects Sinner’s achievements.
