The initial matchups for the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship were announced on Friday in Bangkok following the Drawing of Lots. This highly anticipated event is scheduled to take place in Thailand from August 22 to September 7, 2025.
A total of 32 qualified teams will compete in the tournament, divided into eight pools of four teams each. The pools are as follows:
- Pool A: Thailand, Netherlands, Sweden, Egypt (Bangkok)
- Pool B: Italy, Belgium, Cuba, Slovakia (Phuket)
- Pool C: Brazil, Puerto Rico, France, Greece (Chiang Mai)
- Pool D: USA, Czechia, Argentina, Slovenia (Nakhon Ratchasima)
- Pool E: Türkiye, Canada, Bulgaria, Spain (Nakhon Ratchasima)
- Pool F: China, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Mexico (Chiang Mai)
- Pool G: Poland, Germany, Kenya, Vietnam (Phuket)
- Pool H: Japan, Serbia, Ukraine, Cameroon (Bangkok)
The tournament will be hosted in four cities: Bangkok, Nakhon Ratchasima, Phuket, and Chiang Mai. Pool play will determine the 16 national teams that will advance to the knockout rounds, with the top two teams from each pool moving forward. The single-elimination phases will commence in the Round of 16, all taking place in Bangkok.
This championship marks the beginning of a ‘new era’ for the tournament, which will now be held biannually and feature an expanded format with 32 national teams per gender.
