Alex de Minaur Shares Thoughts on Kyrgios Return

Top-ranked Australian male tennis player Alex de Minaur expressed his excitement for Nick Kyrgios’ return to the court, wishing his fellow compatriot nothing but success. Kyrgios, the 2018 Brisbane International champion, is set to make his comeback at the upcoming tournament, marking his first appearance on the ATP Tour since June 2023.

Kyrgios has faced significant injury challenges in recent years. After undergoing knee surgery in January 2023 due to an offseason injury, he suffered a severe wrist injury shortly thereafter, which required another surgical procedure following just one match on the grass courts of Stuttgart.

In a statement to Eurosport, de Minaur shared his thoughts on Kyrgios’ return: “I think everyone in the whole tennis world is looking forward to having him back. He’s obviously an incredible talent and has done some great things in the sport, so I’m sure the whole tennis world will be very excited to watch him play and compete again. He’s been getting back from rehab, trying to do his best. I’ve seen he’s starting in Brisbane, so I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of eyeballs on that.”

During Kyrgios’ absence, de Minaur established himself as Australia’s top player, breaking into the ATP top 10 for the first time in his career and making his debut at the ATP Finals.

As he prepares for his return, Kyrgios has repeatedly emphasized his goal of winning a Grand Slam. If he can recapture his form from 2022, the 29-year-old has the potential to reclaim the title of Australia’s highest-ranked player by 2025.

If all goes well in Brisbane, Kyrgios is also expected to compete in the Australian Open, which would mark his first Grand Slam appearance since the 2022 US Open.
