In the third round of the Copa del Rey, Barcelona and Real Madrid will face fourth-division clubs. Barcelona is set to play Barbastro, which pulled off a surprising victory against top-tier Espanyol in the second round. Meanwhile, Real Madrid will take on Deportiva Minera.
Both teams received byes in the earlier rounds due to their participation in the Spanish Super Cup. Last year’s Copa del Rey finalists, Mallorca and Athletic Bilbao, will also enter the competition at this stage for the same reason.
Barbastro previously faced Barcelona at this stage in last year’s tournament, losing 3-2.
Additionally, two other fourth-division clubs have advanced: Pontevedra will host Mallorca, while Logrones will play against Athletic Bilbao.
The third round, featuring single-elimination matches, is scheduled for the first week of January. Atletico Madrid will compete against third-division Marbella in this round.
