Arsenal, renowned for their prowess in set pieces, showcased their skills once again on Sunday. Following a 2-0 victory over Manchester United, where they scored twice from corners, Arsenal managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage, thanks to a close-range goal from William Saliba. The goal came after Kai Havertz headed a corner across the goalmouth.
This latest goal adds to Arsenal’s impressive tally, bringing their total to 23 goals from corners since the start of the 2023-24 season—more than any other team in Europe’s top five leagues, according to the BBC.
Following the match against Manchester United, former striker Dimitar Berbatov humorously likened Arsenal to “the new Stoke City,” referencing the club’s historical effectiveness from set pieces under manager Tony Pulis. Berbatov noted that Mikel Arteta’s side has increasingly relied on set pieces for success.
Arsenal’s set-piece strategy is bolstered by the expertise of Nicolas Jover, a specialist coach who previously collaborated with Arteta at Manchester City.
