Millsap, selected as the 47th overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz, quickly established himself as a reliable scorer and tenacious low-post defender. Over his first seven seasons with the Jazz, he averaged 12.4 points, 7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1 block per game across 540 games.

In 2013, Millsap signed with the Atlanta Hawks as a free agent, where he experienced the peak of his career. During his inaugural season with the Hawks (2013-14), he averaged 17.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game, earning his first of four consecutive All-Star selections. The following year, he was instrumental in leading Atlanta to a franchise-record 60 wins and a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals, the team’s first appearance in that round since the 1969-70 season.

Millsap’s defensive prowess was recognized in 2015-16 when he earned a spot on the All-Defensive Second Team. After his successful stint in Atlanta, he joined the Denver Nuggets in 2017, where he became a veteran presence alongside rising star Nikola Jokić. Together, they propelled the Nuggets to the Western Conference Finals in 2020, where they ultimately fell to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Following his tenure in Denver, Millsap signed with the Brooklyn Nets in 2021. He was later traded to the Philadelphia 76ers as part of a blockbuster deal that brought All-Star guard James Harden to the Nets during the 2022 trade deadline.

Millsap’s retirement marks the end of an era for a player who was not only a four-time All-Star but also a respected leader and contributor on every team he played for throughout his career.
