AC Milan and Bologna secured their places in the quarterfinals of the Italian Cup with impressive performances on Tuesday.
Milan delivered a stunning 6-1 victory over Serie B leaders Sassuolo, while Bologna triumphed 4-0 against struggling Serie A side Monza.
The Rossoneri will face either Roma or Sampdoria in the next round, while Bologna awaits the winner of the match between Atalanta and Cesena, both of which will take place next week.
At San Siro, Milan took control early, racing to a commanding lead with two goals from Samuel Chukwueze and additional strikes from Tijjani Reijnders and Rafael Leão within the first 23 minutes. Despite making several changes to the lineup ahead of a challenging Serie A match against Atalanta on Friday, Milan continued to dominate, with further goals from Davide Calabria and Tammy Abraham, offset by a consolation goal from Samuele Mulattieri for Sassuolo.
Bologna’s victory was marked by a balanced attack, with Tommaso Pobega and Riccardo Orsolini scoring in the first half, followed by goals from Benjamín Domínguez and Santiago Castro in the second. However, Bologna will be anxiously monitoring the condition of Orsolini, who limped off shortly after his goal. The Italy forward is the team’s leading scorer this season with six goals.
