Bove’s teammates swiftly called for medical assistance, and players from both teams gathered around the 22-year-old as he received treatment. He was quickly transported by ambulance to Careggi Hospital in Florence.

In a statement, Fiorentina and Careggi University Hospital confirmed that Bove is under pharmacological sedation and has been admitted to intensive care. Initial cardiological and neurological evaluations have ruled out acute damage to both his central nervous system and cardio-respiratory system. Bove is scheduled for re-evaluation within the next 24 hours. Reports from Sky Italia indicate that he regained consciousness while en route to the hospital and is breathing independently.

Bove’s parents, girlfriend, Fiorentina coach Raffaele Palladino, teammates, club directors, and the city’s mayor have all gathered at the hospital to offer support. Fans outside the hospital displayed a banner reading, “Forza Edoardo, Florence is with you.”

Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso expressed solidarity, stating, “Forza Edoardo, we’re with you. You’re a strong boy with a great character.” Messages of support have poured in on social media from players and clubs alike. Inter midfielder Federico Dimarco, present during the incident, wrote, “Forza Edo, we are all with you and your family.”

The incident occurred in the 16th minute of the match, which was halted after a VAR check. Bove appeared to bend down to tie his boot laces before suddenly collapsing. His distraught teammates were comforted by staff and Inter players, with several visibly emotional as both teams left the field.

The match was immediately suspended, with the score at the time of Bove’s collapse being 0-0. The incident has drawn comparisons to the tragic death of former Fiorentina captain Davide Astori, who passed away in March 2018 before a match.

This marks the second occurrence this year of a player collapsing during a Serie A match, following a similar incident involving Roma defender Evan Ndicka in April.

Bove, a product of the Roma youth academy, joined Fiorentina on loan this season, with an option for a permanent transfer. Romelu Lukaku, who played alongside Bove last season at Roma, shared a heartfelt message on social media, posting a photo of the two with the caption: “I love you lil bro. We are all with you.”
