Carter-Vickers Own Goal for Celtic in CL

Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers experienced a moment of frustration during Wednesday’s Champions League match against Club Brugge, as his own goal contributed to a 1-1 draw at Celtic Park.

In the 26th minute, the United States international attempted a no-look pass back from 10 yards, mistakenly believing goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel would be positioned to intercept it. Instead, Schmeichel was caught off guard, and the ball rolled into the corner of the net while the veteran Danish keeper scrambled across his line, narrowly avoiding a collision with the goal post.

Carter-Vickers’ unforced error allowed Club Brugge to take an early lead. However, Celtic responded with determination, equalizing in the 60th minute thanks to a goal from Japan international Daizen Maeda.

Celtic has shown promise in this year’s Champions League campaign, currently sitting 20th in the 36-team standings with eight points—an amount projected by UEFA to be sufficient for advancing to the knockout stage. The Scottish champions will next face Dinamo Zagreb on December 10, followed by matches in January against last-place Young Boys and Aston Villa.

The top eight teams in January will secure direct entry into the round of 16 in March, while teams ranked ninth to 24th will enter a playoff round in February to compete for the remaining spots in the knockout stage.
