Kiran George Advances to Second Round at Korea Masters 2024

Kiran George moved into the second round of the men’s singles event at the Korea Masters 2024 badminton tournament in Iksan City, South Korea, on Wednesday.

World No. 41 George, the only Indian player at the BWF Super 300 event, recovered from a slow start to defeat Vietnam’s World No. 65 Nguyen Hai Dang, winning 15-21, 21-12, 21-15.

The 24-year-old Indian shuttler struggled in the first game, playing catch-up against his opponent. However, he quickly found his rhythm in the second game, scoring six consecutive points to shift the momentum in his favor.

In the decider, George maintained his lead throughout, finishing the match in 57 minutes.

George will face Chinese Taipei’s Chi Yu Jen in the second round on Thursday. Jen, the third seed, won his opening match against South Korea’s Park Sang Yong, 21-14, 21-18.

India’s Ayush Shetty (men’s singles) and Imad Farooqui Samiya (women’s singles) were also entered in the tournament but both withdrew.

No Indian has ever won a title at the Korea Masters.
