In the Hylo Open badminton tournament, all four Indian players have advanced to the quarter-finals in Saarbrucken, Germany. The players are Malvika Bansod, Ayush Shetty, Sathish Kumar Karunakaran, and Rakshitha Sree.
Malvika Bansod, seeded sixth at the BWF Super 300 tournament, won her women’s singles round of 16 match against unseeded Irina Amalie Andersen. The 23-year-old, currently ranked 34th in the world, will face fourth seed Nguyen Thuy Linh of Vietnam, who is ranked 31st, for a spot in the semi-finals.
Seventeen-year-old Rakshitha Sree Santhosh Ramraj achieved a stunning victory over two-time Commonwealth Games medallist Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland, who is the second seed. Rakshitha will compete against eighth seed Julie Dawall Jakobsen of Denmark in the quarter-finals.
In men’s singles, 19-year-old Ayush Shetty, who won a bronze medal at last year’s Junior World Championships, defeated Italy’s Giovanni Toti. He will next face Finland’s Kalle Koljonen for a place in the last four.
Sathish Kumar Karunakaran, the seventh seed, also progressed by defeating England’s Harry Huang. He will compete against Christo Popov of France in the quarter-finals.
Additionally, Sathish participated in the mixed doubles event alongside Aadya Variyath. The fourth-seeded pair was eliminated after losing to French players Tom Lalot Trescarte and Elsa Jacob.
