The Cleveland Cavaliers continued their impressive start to the season with a dominant 134-110 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night. Evan Mobley led the way with 25 points, while Donovan Mitchell added 24, and Jarrett Allen contributed 20 points and 17 rebounds. The victory marks the first time since the 2016-17 season, led by LeBron James, that the Cavs have started 5-0 and the third time in franchise history.
LeBron James and his son, Bronny, returned to Cleveland for the game, with the younger James making his second appearance as a pro. Bronny, who grew up in the arena, scored his first NBA points with a 14-foot jumper late in the game. Despite LeBron’s 26 points and Anthony Davis’ 22 points and 13 rebounds, the Lakers were unable to overcome their slow start and fell behind by 23 points in the first half.
Cleveland’s new coach, Kenny Atkinson, has emphasized ball movement and pushing the pace offensively, resulting in a faster tempo for the team this season. The Cavs made four 3-pointers in a span of 1:45 in the first quarter, with Mitchell hitting back-to-back shots to open a 19-point lead after one. The Lakers, under first-year coach JJ Redick, are still finding their footing and have suffered back-to-back losses.
The Lakers will continue their road trip in Toronto on Friday, while the Cavaliers will host the Orlando Magic in a rematch of last year’s Eastern Conference playoff series. Despite the loss, LeBron has a strong record against the Cavaliers, going 19-4 against them with Miami and Los Angeles.
