Siti Nurshuhaini Azman expressed shock after learning she was one of 13 shuttlers recently dropped by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). Despite the setback, Siti has confirmed that she will continue her badminton career, though possibly in a different category.
Siti, competing at the Malaysia Super 100 today, lost to her junior, Ong Xin Yee, 21-17, 23-21 in just 31 minutes at Juara Stadium. She admitted her preparation was affected by her unexpected removal from the national team.
“I hardly trained for a week before this tournament after receiving the news,” Siti said. “I’m not satisfied with my performance, but given my lack of preparation, I feel OK with how I played against Xin Yee.”
The 19-year-old shuttler said she still has two more tournaments under the BAM banner before taking a short break to plan her next steps.
“I will be competing in the Indonesia International Challenge (Oct 22-27) and the Indonesia Masters II (Oct 29-Nov 3). I’m not certain about my future in singles, and nothing is set in stone yet,” she added.
Siti was part of the Malaysian team that won bronze at the 2022 Asia Championships and recently secured victory at the Lithuania International earlier this year.
