The panel includes representatives from various levels of rugby, from grassroots to professional. They have already met twice in the past ten days to discuss their vision for the new board and the qualifications needed for future members.

New Zealand Rugby has faced challenges in its governance. At one point, the players association threatened to leave and form a new organization to manage the professional game. However, a compromise was reached among Super Rugby franchises, the New Zealand Māori Rugby Board, the Players Association, provincial unions, and the Pasifika advisory group, Tausoa Fa’atasi.

The new independent NZR Board is expected to be established by the end of the year.
