India’s star shuttler, PV Sindhu, has hired former Olympian Anup Sridhar as her new coach for the upcoming European leg of the BWF World Tour. This move aims to enhance Sindhu’s performance as she prepares for future competitions. The pair has set their sights on achieving a podium finish at the Asian Games 2026 in Japan.
With Sridhar’s expertise, Sindhu hopes to improve her game following her last appearance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she lost to He Bing Jiao in the fourth round. Fans are eager to see Sindhu make a strong comeback under her new coach as the BWF season continues.
Sridhar will be Sindhu’s eighth coach and the third Indian to guide her. She previously trained under Indonesian coach Agus Dwi Santoso, whose tenure is nearing its end. Santoso joined Sindhu’s team in January 2024 and had earlier coached Kidambi Srikanth and B Sai Praneeth during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Who is Anup Sridhar?
Anup Sridhar, ranked as high as world No. 37 in 2010, is a former Indian shuttler. He last competed on the BWF tour in 2015, where he lost in the fourth round of the Sydney International. Sridhar has notable achievements, including victories at the Czech International Open in 2013 and the Victorian Open in 2012.
His most memorable performance came during the 2007 BWF World Championships, where he defeated Taufik Hidayat in a third-round match lasting over an hour. He also beat Muhammad Hafiz Hashim, who later coached Sindhu in 2023, before losing to Lin Dan in the quarterfinals.
Now a respected coach, Sridhar established the Anup Sridhar Badminton Academy in 2018, nurturing new talent alongside former player Vijay Lancy. At 41, he aims to make history with Sindhu and hopes to secure a permanent coaching position based on their results. Sridhar will accompany Sindhu to the Arctic Open and Denmark Open, where their performances will decide the future of their partnership.
