The Ruston Sports Complex hosted an exciting weekend for volleyball enthusiasts as 21 teams from North and South Louisiana competed in high school matches on Friday and Saturday.
Ruston High head coach Mandy Cauley described the tournament as “the most competitive to date.” She noted that many teams showcased impressive skills, making for an intense and enjoyable experience.
Ruston High participated in five matches against South Louisiana teams, including Dunham, Sulphur, Notre Dame, Barbe, and Westlake. The goal was to prepare for the upcoming post-season playoffs. The tournament format featured best-of-three matches instead of the usual best-of-five. Despite securing only one victory—a three-set win over Barbe—Ruston High displayed promising performance. The scores were 16-25, 25-17, and 15-9.
Cauley reflected on the matches, stating, “We played many teams closely but need to improve our grit and execution to finish tight games. I hope this experience motivates the team to work harder for our district and post-season goals.”
Teams participating in the tournament included Ruston, Airline, West Monroe, West Ouachita, Byrd, Calvary, Dunham, Fontainebleau, Isidore Newman, St. Michael the Archangel, Sam Houston, Barbe, Ponchatoula, Notre Dame, Northwood, Parkway, Westlake, Covington, Sulphur, and Haughton.
