George Mason Volleyball Defeats Navy 3-1 in Mason Invite

The George Mason women’s volleyball team defeated Navy 3-1 on Friday evening at the Mason Invitational.

The Patriots (3-5) began the match with strong performances, winning the first two sets. Despite a third-set win by the Midshipmen (0-8), George Mason clinched the victory with a fourth-set win. The set scores were 25-16, 25-16, 25-23, and 25-21.

In the first set, George Mason led from start to finish, maintaining a lead of up to 10 points over Navy.

The second set saw similar dominance from the Patriots, who never trailed and went on a 7-0 run, thanks to strong serving from sophomore Autumn Martinez-Robinson.

The third set was competitive, with both teams exchanging points. There were 11 ties and six lead changes, but Navy ultimately secured the set.

In the fourth set, George Mason began with a 7-2 run. Although Navy closed the gap to 22-21, the Patriots scored the last three points to win the set 25-21 and secure the match.

Key Performers

Senior Olyvia Kennedy led the team with 15 kills, and freshman Avery Booker added 13 kills. Sophomore Camryn Weldon achieved a career-high 30 assists, while freshman Jaylin Lott recorded a career-high 16 digs.

George Mason outperformed Navy in several categories, including kills (56-37), assists (52-34), digs (52-45), and service aces (9-7).
