Houston Astros right-handed pitchers Jose Urquidy and Cristian Javier are set to undergo surgeries on their right elbows, sidelining them for the remainder of the season. The team announced that Urquidy’s procedure is scheduled for Wednesday, followed by Javier’s surgery on Thursday.
Urquidy, 29, has been on the injured list since the start of the season. He left his third rehab start due to discomfort in his right forearm. Over five seasons with the Astros, Urquidy has compiled a 27-16 record with a 3.98 ERA in 79 games, including 70 starts.
Javier, 27, had a 3-1 record with a 3.89 ERA in seven starts this season before being placed on the injured list on May 24. Since his major league debut on July 25, 2020, Javier has posted a 33-18 record with a 3.59 ERA in 116 career appearances, including 82 starts.
