Pirates Outlast Dodgers Despite Ohtani’s Homer

Pirates 10, Dodgers 6: Shohei Ohtani’s home run off rookie Paul Skenes wasn’t enough to stop the Pittsburgh Pirates from defeating the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers 10-6 on Wednesday. Nick Gonzales led the Pirates with four RBIs, including a two-run double that fueled a seven-run second inning. Yasmani Grandal, Edward Olivares, and Ke’Bryan Hayes also contributed RBI singles. Skenes (3-0) allowed three runs on six hits over five innings, striking out eight and walking one, despite surrendering homers to Ohtani and Andy Pages. Jason Heyward had three hits and scored twice for the Dodgers.

Reds 12, Rockies 7: Spencer Steer hit a go-ahead home run, and Jonathan India capped a six-run ninth inning with a grand slam as Cincinnati stunned Colorado in Denver. Steer’s two-run shot put the Reds ahead 8-7, and India followed with his fourth career grand slam. Elias Diaz went 3-for-5 with a homer for the Rockies, who lost their fifth straight game.

Cardinals 4, Astros 2: Nolan Arenado homered, and Miles Mikolas pitched six solid innings to lead St. Louis past Houston. Mikolas (4-6) allowed two runs and five hits. Yainer Diaz and Trey Cabbage hit solo homers for the Astros.

Red Sox 9, Braves 0: Nick Pivetta pitched seven shutout innings, and Rafael Devers hit two home runs as Boston blanked visiting Atlanta. Jarren Duran also homered for the Red Sox. Austin Riley’s single was the Braves’ only hit.

Giants 9, Diamondbacks 3: Wilmer Flores hit a grand slam in a six-run third inning, helping San Francisco snap a six-game losing streak by defeating Arizona. Heliot Ramos and Jorge Soler also homered for the Giants.

Phillies 2, Brewers 0: Nick Castellanos’ two-run homer lifted Philadelphia over Milwaukee, completing a three-game sweep. Aaron Nola pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits.

Cubs 7, White Sox 6: Mike Tauchman hit a walk-off homer as the Cubs handed the White Sox their 13th consecutive loss. Tauchman finished with two hits and three runs. Dansby Swanson also had two hits for the Cubs.

Athletics 2, Mariners 1: Joey Estes took a perfect game into the seventh inning, and Zack Gelof homered as Oakland edged Seattle. Estes (2-1) allowed just one hit over 6 1/3 innings. Logan Gilbert pitched seven strong innings for the Mariners, who saw Julio Rodriguez’s ninth-inning homer account for their only run.

Royals-Guardians: Kansas City’s game at Cleveland was postponed due to inclement weather and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on August 26.
