The New York Jets made a significant offseason acquisition by trading for Pro Bowl pass-rusher Haason Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles. However, Jets head coach Robert Saleh has yet to speak with Reddick since the trade occurred on March 29.
Saleh revealed to reporters that he has had no communication with Reddick and is uncertain about his absence from the team’s Organized Team Activities (OTAs) this week. “I’m focused on the guys who are here and Haason’s a pro,” Saleh stated. “He’s been in this league a while. He’s produced at a very high level for a long time. He’s got his routine and if it makes people feel better, we know where he’s at, we know what he’s doing, and we know he’s working his tail off to get ready for a productive 2024 season.”
Speculation suggests that Reddick, who was dissatisfied with his contract in Philadelphia, is still seeking a new deal. Saleh redirected contract-related inquiries to General Manager Joe Douglas.
Saleh expressed confidence that Reddick would attend the Jets’ mandatory minicamp next week. Reddick has already forfeited a $250,000 workout bonus by missing OTAs and would face fines if he does not report to minicamp.
Reddick is entering the final season of a three-year, $45 million contract he signed with the Eagles in 2022. At 29, Reddick has been a consistent performer, making the Pro Bowl in each of the past two seasons and recording double-digit sacks for four consecutive years. Over his seven-year career with the Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers, and Eagles, Reddick has amassed 410 tackles (69 for loss), 58 sacks, 16 forced fumbles, and five fumble recoveries, missing just one game.
The Jets are hopeful that Reddick’s experience and productivity will significantly bolster their defensive line once he joins the team.
