The St. Louis Cardinals made roster adjustments on Wednesday, opting to send struggling outfielder Jordan Walker back to the minors. Walker, 21, has been optioned to Triple-A Memphis following a challenging start to the season, during which he posted a batting average of .155 with no home runs and four RBIs in 20 games.
Walker’s recent performance has been particularly challenging, as he went 3-for-27 with nine strikeouts over his last 11 games. Despite his promising stature at 6-foot-6, the former top prospect has struggled to find his rhythm at the plate this season.
However, Walker showcased his potential during his rookie season in 2023, where he boasted a .276 batting average with 16 home runs and 51 RBIs in 117 games, hinting at his capabilities as a dynamic player.
In addition to Walker, the Cardinals also made moves involving pitcher Zack Thompson, who has been optioned to Memphis. In corresponding moves, left-hander John King and infielder Jose Fermin have been recalled, providing the team with additional depth and flexibility as they navigate the season.
